אבל אני מניח שישפצו אותו שוב. לפי מה שהבנתי, הוא ניזוק קשות גם במלחמת קוריאה, ומאז שיפצו אותו.

נתפס מצית השער הדרומי

הגבר בשנות ה 70 לחייו כבר הצית ב 2006 חלק מארמון צ'נגיונג (창경궁) - אחד מ 5 הארמונות של שושלת ג'וסון, וכעת הצליח להצית את הנאמדמון (남대문) - השער הדרומי. הסיבה כנראה, מחאה על כך שלא פוצה כיאות, לטענתו, על הלאמת אדמתו לטובת פיתוחי בניה בעיר.

Title : Suspect in Gate Fire Confesses to Crime A man who was taken into police custody for setting Korea's national treasure on fire... has confessed to the crime. In a televised press briefing... authorities said... a disgruntled man singlehandedly broke into Sungnyemun ... and torched it. Nam Kiyung has more on the motive... and how the man was captured. A repeat arsonist has confessed to setting fire to Korea's most prized cultural landmark, which was destroyed early Monday morning. Authorities investigating the fire say... a man only known by his surname Chae admitted to torching Sungnyemun ... better known as Namdaemun... an ancient two-story wood-and-stone gate... built more than six centuries ago. The 69-year-old man was apprehended at his home in Incheon... southwest of Seoul, Monday evening... and was taken into police custody for interrogation. ''As to questions of whether the crime was premeditated, the suspect testified to police that he made two on-site inspections of Sungnyemun in July and December of last year before taking action.'' As for motive... the suspect reportedly claims he did it out of spite... after he was slapped with a big fine on a separate arson charge in 2006 and because he had personal grievances toward a real estate deal gone bad in 1998. Police were led to the assailant's house... after cross-referencing people with past criminal records of arson. When police raided Chae's residence in search of evidence... they discovered... clothing matching the descriptions obtained from witnesses at the time of the incident. They also found... a metal ladder and paint thinner... which investigators believe was used to scale the walls and set the gate ablaze. A hand-written letter was also confiscated... in which a disgruntled Chae describes his hatred toward society. This isn't the first time Chae has had a run in with the law for burning parts of Korea's cultural heritage.
