Singapore to open Las Vegas casino school by next year SINGAPORE (AP) - A prominent Las Vegas college will offer courses in casino management when it sets up a campus in the city-state next year ahead of the opening of two casinos in 2009, a local newspaper reported Thursday. The William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration, part of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, would offer a bachelor's degree in hotel administration with gaming electives, according to The Straits Times in Singapore. The paper quoted college dean Stuart Mann who said gaming is only part of the program, which also includes other hospitality and leisure management courses. The college hopes to take in between 25 to 50 students in the first year, and expand to 250 students in five years, the paper said. Eighty percent of students are expected to be foreigners, with Singaporeans making up the rest. The school is named after the founder of the world's second-largest casino operator Harrah's Entertainment Inc. Singapore hopes the two casinos - with theme parks and hotels - will boost its US$100 billion (euro81.78 billion) domestic economy, attract high-spending tourists and create thousands of jobs. The government has yet to decide among 12 proposals from companies that are keen to develop the two casino resorts in Singapore. - AP For another perspective from The Straits Times, a partner of Asia News Network, click here.
